The idea of an MMA showdown between these tech moguls originated as an online banter a few weeks ago. Tensions escalated between them after Zuckerberg launched his Twitter-like app called Threads on July 5, 2023. Threads quickly gained popularity, amassing over 100 million users worldwide.
Musk, however, accused Meta of “cheating” to make Threads possible in response to reports that Twitter threatened to sue Meta for unfair competition. Musk tweeted, “Competition is fine, cheating is not.”
As the online arguments intensified, Zuckerberg and Musk renewed their banter about a cage fight showdown. While some initially saw it as playful banter, the anticipation surrounding this unlikely showdown grew when both tech moguls were pictured training with MMA fighters.
Zuckerberg responded to the picture of his training session with Adesanya and Volkanovski by saying, “It’s an honor to train with you guys!” Adesanya, also known as “The Last Stylebender,” posted photos of the training session and commented, “No fugazi with Mark. This is Serious Business.” Volkanovski, the UFC featherweight champion, responded to Zuckerberg, saying, “@zuck you’re a beast! Always great to catch up.”
Musk, on the other hand, was spotted training with UFC legend Georges St-Pierre on July 3, 2023. This indicates that he is also preparing for a potential fight.
