A legislative assistant, Kabir Muhammed Lawal has been nabbed for breaking into the office of a member of the House of Representatives, Hon.Kabiru Idris from Kano State.
Sadly, Lawal who was nabbed, is a staff of Hon. Mustafa Saidu from Adamawa State.
Lawal, who was apprehended with the aid of a closed-circuit television camera, he hails from Offa, Kwara State.
Report has it that it was a CCTV footage that showed Lawal allegedly opening a shelf in the office.
Authorities of the National Assembly had also interrogated him on Friday.
Idris, who is Chairman of the House Committee on Civil Society Organisations and Donor Agencies, revealed that Lawal allegedly broke into his office after using several keys, within 15 minutes of exiting the office.
The lawmaker was quoted, “He put off the light in my office but my cameras were on and I could see him. He used different keys. I could see from the camera; he was struggling to open the door and it was less than 15 minutes after I closed from the office. Basically, he was monitoring my movements. We have all the videos.”
Idris said he had contacted Lawal’s boss, who was expected to arrive in the National Assembly to see what his aide had allegedly done.
“It will be unfair to take any action or allow anybody to take any action without the consent of his principal. I have already invited him and he is on his way. We will tell him what happened.
Idris told journalists that the case had been handed over to the National Assembly management for further action.
The House spokesman said members of the National Assembly were no longer safe to carry out their legislative duties and that he was shocked to see that his office had been burgled.
It will be recalled that several lawmakers have at different times have their offices burgled. One of such victims is Sen. Remi Tinubu representing Lagos Senatorial district.
Also, Chairman of the Press (House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Benjamin Kalu) recently had his office burgled and this has been a source of worry to the lawmakers as they no longer feel safe.
