The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) recently paraded 35 suspects involved in various crimes, including illegal mining and defilement of minors in Port Harcourt.
The Commandant, Basil Igwebueze, credited the successful arrests to credible intelligence and the collaboration of multiple agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel and the Ministerial Task Force on illegal mining, which comprises the EFCC, NSCDC, DSS, Nigeria Police, Immigration Service, and Nigerian officials.
They apprehended the suspects in the act of illegal dredging of sharp sands, which caused environmental degradation. The Commandant emphasized the importance of reporting criminal activities to the NSCDC and other security agencies, encouraging the public to “see something, say something.”
