In Odiemere community, Rivers State, three individuals tragically lost their lives. These victims were reportedly killed by security personnel who had been deployed to Akoh Kingdom to apprehend the culprits responsible for the murder of Superintendent of Police Bako Angbashim, who was killed by local cultists.
The security personnel responsible for the trio’s deaths were part of the team dispatched to find those behind SP Angbashim’s murder, following orders from Governor Siminalaye Fubara. Although the DPO was killed in Odiemudie, the search operation extended to Odiemere in the same Akoh Kingdom, where the three individuals were fatally shot.
According to a source in the community, the victims were not associated with any cult. When they spotted the heavily armed security personnel, they tried to flee but were tragically gunned down. One of them died on the spot, while the other two succumbed to their injuries at a healthcare facility where they had been rushed for treatment.
In another development, the Department of State Security (DSS) apprehended the King of Akoh Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi, Eze Igbu-Akoh II, in connection with the murder of SP Bako. Ikegbidi had already been suspended indefinitely by the state governor on suspicions of being involved in the crime. Governor Fubara accused Ikegbidi of allowing notorious criminal David Gift and his gang to operate freely in his territory.
The monarch was taken to his residence in Port Harcourt and then to his palace in Ihugbogo community for a search as part of the ongoing investigation.
At the time of this report, the state police command had not confirmed these events, as attempts to contact the police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, went unanswered.
