“My constituents came out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility but were denied their franchise to vote the candidate and party of their choice through the application of maximum force in all the wards of our constituency except my home town of Kofa, Bebeji, that proved impenetrable. We know we won the election fairy and squarely but our mandate was stolen”, these were the words of the former Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, of the All Progressives Congress on Sunday.
Jibrin was defeated by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Alhaji Aliyu Yako, and consequently declared winner of the Saturday rerun in the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State.
Jibrin polled 13,507 votes against the 48,601 votes polled by Yako of the main opposition party.
The Saturday poll was conducted by Prof Abdullahi Arabi. No fewer than 20 political parties participated in the election.
